Series: The Courage to Create: How I Built HappyKids HQ: A Startup Journey for Australian Families

(Read time: 2 minutes)

Part 4: Taking the Leap: Building a Startup for Sydney Kids During 2020

Fear is the biggest thief of dreams.

Many times, I asked myself: Who am I to build a tech platform? Will anyone care? What if I fail? Add to that the unsolicited advice from well-meaning friends and family urging me to stick to the known, and the temptation to quit was real.

But courage isn’t about having no fear - it’s about moving forward despite it.

HappyKids HQ wasn’t built overnight. The idea came to me over five years ago. I worked on it quietly, through the pandemic, floods, and numerous conversations with providers and parents. Slowly, a minimum viable product began to take shape.

We launched in July 2023 on the Central Coast under a different brand. We tested, we listened, we learned. Now, we’re ready to take on NSW as HappyKids HQ!

Ask Yourself: If you wrote down one dream today, what would the first action step look like?

In Part 5, we’ll talk about how your mindset, whether focused on problems or possibilities, can be the deciding factor in your success.
